lost & frightened

are you lost?
are you frightened?
inside your head
are battles being waged while
nothing is done on the forefront
as the clouds advance & retreat in the sky
carrying twistd rainbows behind them as they travel
is there a part of you lost in that ethereal ferry
a part tha knows every sensation
though your lips can't put words to them
where does the ferry go
an answer to the question is confronted in every dream
at the darkest of every night
in the deepest of every slumber

are you lost
are you frightened
would a walk in the park
anger you to the brink of self-destruction?
would you see each person, each creature
a unique entity
and face the demons unleashed
when culture is broken into singular forces
each with their own pull on the whole
like pieces of a broken mirror, each shard reflecting
a slightly different version

thousands of spheres of influence
bubbling up into a volcano of
men's hearts and their contents
are you bewildered to see them
walking in different directions
different expressions on their faces
are they monkies playing side show tricks
as they meander about
do they pretend to ignore one another
and deny the connection
that is locked into place within everyone so primal
so cold, so raw that even the mind doesn't visit there
and chains together each portion of humanity
a spiritual cobweb
or roadmap perhaps
with dark alleys and back streets at every corner
can you feel your link weakening?
do the bonds break
as you consider these creatures
who will live heart to heart
and fist to fist
at the same time?

are you lost
are you frightened
frozen in bed
as the day's reign is emminent
are you defeated at work
as the dawn's slow skyrockets are memory
are you back at square one
as the territory of the night
cloaks oour eyes
are you powerless
and find yourself only a little sad
that you have not conquered worlds
nor do you have the ammunition to
nor do y ou know which worlds lie where
in the ravine within yourself
where the chain bonds onto you
are your generals perched, tactics in hand
or are the spectres of the forgotten looming overhead
upon their wretched heads lie the soldier's helmets
as a tribute and mockery
to the blessed and the damned
are the cannons and mortar in disrepair
stones from a fortress in disarray
encircling the bond from which the chain outreaches
to another field and
another cast of dead or useless soldiers
to wage each's personal war
against the confusion haunting
the constant interaction
within the whole of a culture

are you lost
are you frightened
do you find yourself in the belly of the forest
do the trees stare you down
are the leaves overhead like razors
looming just above reach and
swaying slightly
does the light try hard to punch its way through
but the air whose chill is slightly unnerving
attacks and swallows whole
and that may make it through
are you shocked in thus lonely thicket
when the voices of the wind and the
faces of the trees prove to be
that of your own and as you
look into the eyes and
listen to the words
you find things about yourself
you had believed untrue and as you
peer around to the edges of this
small, solitary hollow
you discover that no man nor beast could
transcend this place in neither
mind nor movement
and when you awaken to find that this was
only a dream
you open your eyes to find yourself
in the same forest
only the faces of the trees and the
voices in the wind
are that of the world

are you lost
are you frightened
are you broken and in pieces
are the voices in your head reaching
maddening proportions
do you refuse to listen and
live on instinct alone?
are you stumbling
are you crawling
through a tunnel full of empty
to the light at the end
but the light gets smaller
the closer you get
and you become more uncertain
of whether or not you want to reach it
for what lies beneath
may be more frightening
and more maddening
than yourself

are you lost
are you frightened
yes, you are
so am i
so are we
so we shall
forever be
